Joy Dare: Day 4

A Gift Gathered, Given, Good

1) All the pumpkins Peanut & I snagged! My patio looks like it's own pumpkin patch now...

2) The copy of Blue Like Jazz babe found for our new friend, Thanya, at the library book sale.
It was perfect and totally from God.

3) The crisp and refreshing fall air... it is so, SO good.

in which: andrew would say...

Rereading and reflecting on Blue Like Jazz this morning. I don't think I will ever grow tired of the contents within this book...

Earlier this week, we received 4 copies of the film on DVD & Blu-Ray at work; and I was sweeping up after we closed last night, a smile crept across my face as I looked up to find that all were checked out.

Don talks about his friends Andrew the Protester and how he doesn't believe in empty passion; that what you DO signifies what you believe, not what you say.
Jesus said to feed the poor. Andrew understands this as we should go and directly feed the poor ourselves. So every Sunday, Andrew sets up a make shift kitchen on a sidewalk and makes breakfast for the homeless. He sits and talks with them and if they want to pray, he prays with them.
This is beautiful.

"Andrew would say that dying for something is easy because it is associated with glory. Living for something, Andrew would say, is the hard thing. Living for something extends beyond fashion, glory or recognition. We live for what we believe, Andrew would say."
-Blue Like Jazz

Father... could I know this kind of passion?

update.

No word on Jess yet... Humane Society is supposed to keep me updated but I'll probably end up calling tomorrow. I know we'd probably get along fine without her but, truth be told, I miss her.
God, give her sweet sleep tonight & help her to not be afraid.

In other news, Civil Disobedience has come to an end. I am waiting for an email that will declare the winners! I already know who won the Grand Prize - but there is hope yet for at least a signed book! We'll see :)

More in the days to follow.

look what i found at work!

"Fancy running into you here, Don."

I read most of it on my break and it's quite good. Written by his actual friend, Penny, even. This man is amazing.

in which: tomorrow signifies the end...

...of Blue Like Jazz: The Movie showing in major Texas cities. Not enough viewings I guess. Sad. So if you dwell within the Austin, San Antonio or Houston areas - and you're cool with playing hooky - I suggest you and a friend make it out to a theater my friend!

introducing

Civil Disobedience

 aka

Blue Like Jazz: The Movie

Street Team

As if people didn't already think I was part of a cult... I've joined Civil Disobedience. I perform an array of acts to promote the movie, help spread the word, get people interested. Mostly, this involves talking it up on facebook, word of mouth, handing out flyers, posters, wearing my bad ass Blue Like Jazz t-shirt to work... and my favorite... Covert Ops Missions. For everything I do to promote, I report it on the CD (civil disobedience) website and I receive points. The more points you get... the better the prizes! Grand Prize? An all expense paid trip for two to Nashville to meet Donald Miller (author) & Steve Taylor (director/producer), dinner with them, a tour of sites where the film was shot... YEAH. Other great winners will receive anything from a personal skype call from Don & Steve to autographed books :) ALL VERY EXCITING.

So, obviously, the farther you go to promote the movie, the bigger the points earned. The most points you can earn are 1000 - through completing Covert Ops Missions which are received by email (you have to sign up for them), which are sent out weekly. There is only one mission per week, and once the new mission is sent out, you can no longer earn points for an old mission. Make sense?

Alright.
Now that I've got you up to speed, here is my latest feat:

Starbucks will never know what hit em! My boyfriend was the lookout and photographer, hehe. There was no one really around but I was a tad nervous of any cops spotting us since I have a ticket I haven't paid for yet that I received in that area (oops).

But oh, how I love the thrill!

More to come next week, folks.
Over and out.

If you haven't read the book - I HIGHLY recommend going and picking up a copy asap. This book changed my life. I can't wait to see how the movie turns out! SO PUMPED.

in which: it's not halloween, BUT...

...would you mind putting this on?

How about in support of movie you've never seen?
In support of people you've never met?
Or perhaps, in support of a message you believe in?

How is ANY of this related and why does it involve this horrendous costume?
Stay tuned my friends... this is only the beginning of the next 2 1/2 weeks of my life.

To Be Continued...
